After a collective discussion to identify the subject of the song, the participants will write a small phrase related to that subject and then the song will be composed by putting together all the phrases and words written by the participants. |
Learning Objectives |
To improve the capacity of self-introspection and self-analysis and development of creativity. |
Materials |
Pens, markers or pencils, some sheets of paper. |
Preparation |
In the venue there should be enough chairs for the participants and at least a table where all of them can write. The trainers should also provide the needed materials to do the activities, such as sheets of paper, pens, pencils, or markers. |
Implementation |
- Brainstorming: The trainer will lead a group discussion with the participants to identify the main subject of the song. The trainer can provide some suggestions of themes to get the discussion started. After a brief discussion, the participants will collectively choose the theme they prefer, and write it down on a sheet of paper.
- Word selection: Each participant will individually write a small phrase or word related to the chosen subject on a small piece of paper. These papers will be placed in a box, and a participant or the trainer will randomly select the papers. The selected words or phrases will be written down on a sheet of paper in the order they were extracted from the box.
- Song composition: The trainer will guide the group to choose additional words or phrases that fit the subject and connect well with the ones already selected, in order to compose a complete song.

Debriefing and evaluation |
The trainer can ask the participants:
- How was creating a song from scratch?
- Why did you choose the words that you chose?
- Did you enjoy doing this exercise with the group or would you have preferred to do it by yourself?
